How to Be Sure You are a Christian1. Every person is a sinner Romans 3:23 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," 2. And a dilemma exists. The holy God loves every person and does not want to punish anyone, but His justice demands punishment for sin. While Jeremiah 31:3 says, "The LORD said, 'I have loved you with an everlasting love...'", Exodus 34:7 says, "Yet (God) does not leave the guilty unpunished;" 3. So, God took to initiative to solve the dilemma God sent a part of Himself, his son, Jesus to come to earth and be a man. Jesus went through the same temptations to sin as you and I do, but He didn't sin. So He was perfect. And when He was unjustly put to death on the cross, He became the perfect sacrifice that the justice of God demanded for the sins of every person. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 4. This salvation from the dilemma cannot be earned, because you've already sinned, and therefore are deserving of God's just punishment. So all you can do is accept God's gift of His Son, Jesus. And this gift is free. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 5. This gift of deliverance from the dilemma of sin can be yours. The Bible simply says, in Romans 10:9-10, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Will you accept the gift from the dilemma of sin? You can by praying a prayer to God, similar to this… Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and I need your salvation. I believe that you died for my sins. So I now ask you to save me from the punishment I deserve, because of my sin. And from now on, I want to show my gratitude to you for this free gift of salvation, by following your leadership in my life. Did you really mean what you just prayed? If you did, this is what God has to say to you… John 6:47 says, "I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life." That's God's promise to you. You can be confident in your salvation, from this day forward. |
